The Institute
for the Advancement
of Dictatorships

Our Mission

The Institute for the Advancement of Dictatorships is an independent research and teaching institution dedicated to the rigorous study of authoritarian governance. Founded in 2001, the Institute brings together leading scholars, practitioners, and heads of state to advance knowledge in the fields of power consolidation, population management, and the long-term sustainability of non-democratic rule.

The Institute operates on the conviction that effective dictatorship requires not improvisation but method. Through its residential programmes, guest lecture series, and case-based curriculum, it equips the next generation of leaders with the analytical tools, historical perspective, and practical skills necessary to govern without consent.
